Can a 9-Hole Executive Be Pure?

Golf Course Deep Dive: Brea Creek

Welcome to Brea, California. Known for crude oil and citrus production in North Orange County. An area in the golf space known for Coyote Hills and, a bit further up, Hacienda. Hidden among this area sits a secret oasis called Brea Creek Golf Course. A 9-hole executive that boasts beautiful greens and fringes, challenging shots across the creek that runs through the middle of the property, and great practice facilities.

With two par 4s and hole number 6 stretching almost 200 yards over water, it's easy to see why locals keep coming back. On a quicker day, the average round flies under two hours. The thing that really shocked me when I played here? There were straight-up sticks everywhere you looked. Our group was four dudes, and every single one of us had a legit chance at shooting par. I glanced around and spotted a ton of high-level juniors grinding it out too.

I’m pretty sure a big reason for all the talent hanging around is the fantastic reputation of the head pro, Brandon Guangorena. I got to chat with him, and the guy genuinely cares about every single one of his students. I’ve been around plenty of swing coaches who’ve developed great players just like Brandon has, but they wouldn’t give me the time of day. Brandon? We even spent a little time working on my putting stroke, which was super cool of him!
A huge part of what I do is running into awesome people in this industry, and Brandon is definitely one of the good ones. If you’re in the area and need a lesson, definitely shoot him a DM.

So overall, Brea Creek delivered. For an average play price of around $20, you really can’t beat it. The greens roll true, and the course puts you in some legit challenging spots that test your decision-making and shot-making. One thing I almost overlooked: Fullerton Golf Course is literally right next door. If you’re in the area, you could easily squeeze in two separate rounds for under $60 total.
Is North Orange County a hidden gem for golf lovers? Eh, maybe that’s a bit of a stretch, but I promise you’ll have a great time at Brea Creek and run into some solid people on the track. Check out their full website HERE, and drop a comment below if you’ve ever played here!
